Project COPE’s first goal is to assist the ex-offender. Our second is to help the partnership team in bridging race, class, culture and familiar expectations. Standing with a person as he or she overcomes big odds is both humbling and exhilarating, a great gift to those of us who thought we were the ones giving. The partnership team represents the larger community; the more a team can help an ex-offender, the more the community will benefit.
COPE’s current operating budget is $150,000. We have a full-time executive director and two part-time staff members: a partnership team coordinator and a housing manager. We also serve as an AARP placement for four people over 55 who are re-entering the workforce after prison. We provide eight months of housing for 35 clients each year and coordinate the work of about 30 teams. We hope to open another four to six units of housing in 2009.
Our funding comes from individuals, congregations and foundations. We are grateful for this support and appreciate whatever help you can give us to continue – and expand – our work.
